As the lazy rhythm of June, July and August always seem to be more of a gentle pace (probably due to the oppressive heat where I live in Media, Pennsylvania), things gradually pick up steam as we scuttle along and by the time we arrive at September it feels like we’re bombing towards the holiday season.

I’m determined to savor this slow, relaxed pace for as long as I can this month. It’s not about clinging to summer, no way. I’m eagerly anticipating the end of the heat and looking forward to cozy cashmere and evenings spent around the fire pit or fireplace.

But to make a conscious effort to really appreciate the sights. It’s so easy to get caught up in life and not notice all the beauty going on around us. As a flower farmer I’m constantly thinking about what’s next. I want to be more mindful of the present moment.

Appreciate the beautiful visual progress of the flowers as they unfurl rather than quickly glancing to see if they’re ready to harvest.

Notice the way the flowers change colors over the course of their life cycle much like the trees do.

That is how I intend to step into this month with its soft, golden light. How about you?
