Back in the US. I arrived to a very excited puppy and no son. He went off to camp, yesterday, for a week.
The first thing I did when I got home was inspect the gardens. The plants are still alive. I did lose my china asters but overall the boys kept everything else alive.
My husband is now insisting we immediately install a drip irrigation system in the dahlia garden. Hmmmm….
The second thing I did was check my suitcase to see if the seeds I smuggled back made it. They did. Nothing illegal or invasive but varieties that are harder to find or colors that can’t be found over here. I’m always on the hunt for something new or unusual.
My zinnias are picking up. Most of my sunflowers blew open so they’re a lost cause but I’m not surprised. The heat messed everything up.

Tuesday, 25 June
The weeds came back with a vengeance while I was gone. I should have taken a picture of it but I couldn’t bring myself to. It’s like I never did anything to the beds before I left. It’s overwhelming. How come the flowers don’t grow as fast?
Wednesday, 26 June
The dog is off to daycare, today. It’s meant to be brutal, temperature wise. We don’t have central air. The daycare is always frigid. Wish I could stay there with her! Lucky girl.
The entirety of my day will be spent weeding until it’s time to pick her up. And probably after, as well.

Holy Cannoli! I got accepted to the Craft and Mercantile night market in Malvern for September. I’m so excited.

I applied a while ago and completely forgot about it, to be honest. Now my head is filling with all sorts of ideas. I can’t wait to see my flowers making their way out of Delco!
I also got accepted to sell my flowers at the Harriton House Farmstead Fair the week after. That looks like an amazing event, as well. Looks like I’ll be flowering most of September. Couldn’t be happier!
Spent the evening scattering seeds like a madwoman. Or someone who has some events coming up. Ha! More zinnias, sunflowers, basil, orlaya.
Friday, 28 June
My baby is home. He actually looked happy to see me. It won’t last, I’m sure, but I’ll take what I can get. Teens are tough, aren’t they?
Started prepping the dahlia garden for the irrigation system. Got a late start so we’ll begin today and will finish it tomorrow.
Saturday, 29 June
The drip irrigation system is now in…just in time for the rain.

My first dahlia. Bah. It’s not always perfect here if anyone was wondering. Guess it’s time to break out the organza bags to cover the buds. I did that last year and they worked beautifully.
Sunday, 30 June
How is it the last day of June?
Lunch with family and not much else because by late afternoon it was pouring. I’m sure the gardens had a sigh of relief.
Have a lovely week!
