Monday, 29 April

Hot and more hot. It was 90°f today. The sun was shining and summer appeared. It was brutal. I watered the garden early to get it out of the way. This evening I transferred a few dill, ammi and dara seedlings.

We don’t have central air in our house. It’s no fun living here during the summer months. It’s on our list of improvements but other projects keep popping up and getting in the way of having it installed. This year it was major plumbing work.

With the heat brings the irises. Every time I walk out my door more are in bloom. I pre-ordered several more to be delivered later this year. I’m obsessed.

Wednesday, 01 May

My favorite month begins. And the weather is gorgeous, today. Warm and sunny. The perfect day.

Planted out Apple of Peru, cress, love in a puff, sweet Annie and basil seedlings. Some of these are new to me, this year. 2024 is really about trial and error. Looking to expand on what I’m currently growing to be able to provide more variety for customers. It’s a fun experiment.

Thursday, 02 May

Back to far too much heat for my liking. I think today is the last of it, though. I hope so because I have loads of dahlias to deal with starting this weekend. I’m going to try in earnest to organize them better, this year. That means combining the new with all of the plants that overwintered. I long for an instagram-worthy dahlia garden but we’ll see what happens.

Found several opium poppy seedlings all over the garden. Transferred a few of them to the borders by my front door. I love when nature does most of the work for me!

My son begrudgingly agreed (last night!) to attend the convocation at his school, this evening, which made me deliriously happy. He deserves this even if he doesn’t see it at the moment. He decided not to smile in any of the photos. That’s my boy.

Saturday, 04 May

Finally went and opened a business bank account, today. I truly loathe the business- y part. I just want to do the joyful bits. The planning, growing and designing.

It’s raining again. This wasn’t in the forecast a few days ago but here we are. At least I don’t have to water anything. I moved a few alchamilla Mollis around and did a bit of weeding in between the rain drops.

Sunday, 05 May

Raining outside but celebrating May birthdays inside with cannolis from Termini. Nothing better.

Hope you’re having a lovely week!
