Happy Spring! Today is also opening day for Hand & Flower! I’m so excited to finally be able to share my flowers with the community.

The daffodils are coming in beautifully and the way the weather has been fluctuating between cold and warm, I may just have flowers to sell for Easter. Last year was warmer and everything went super early. Definitely not the case, this year!
Friday, 22 March
The weather is going below freezing, tonight. Oh goody. Fingers crossed and all the prayers that my peonies that have buds already will be ok.
Saturday, 23 March
Torrential rains, windy and cold. The worst combination in terms of weather. In my humble opinion, of course. The garden is waterlogged. The lawn is squelchy. And freezing temperatures again, tonight. This time last year I had tulips in bloom.
I took the opportunity to sow lots of filler seeds, today. Ammi, dara carota, dill, cress, atriplex, sweet annie, Chinese forget-me-nots, cosmos, the list goes on.
I made the bolognese recipe from Mimi Thorrison’s book, Old World Italian: Recipes and Secrets from Our Travels in Italy. I’ve made a lot of bolognese over the years and have used many recipes. This one was fantastic. And easier than most of them. Definitely a keeper.
Sunday, 24 March
The sun was shining today but it was still cold. Hopefully tonight is the last below freezing one we’ll see until next Autumn.
I took a chance and planted out some larkspur and snapdragons, this morning. I covered them so hopefully they’ll be ok. I guess we’ll find out!
The garden looked good even after getting all of that rain, yesterday. I swear everything grew a bit. Maybe I’m being overly optimistic.
Have a lovely week!
