Blue Monday/MLK Day

Boxes, bags, and clothing racks are now residing in my living room. I suppose I should move them but I don’t have it in me. The idea of schlepping everything up and then back down is daunting. Or I’m just being lazy. We’ll see how long it takes to be aggravated everything in the way.

Our house is odd. It’s essentially a ranch with an entire second floor that isn’t used except for my husband’s office being up there. The rest is used for storage. And there’s a basement that spans the house, as well. We have a root cellar. In the fourteen years we’ve owned our house I’ve only been to see it twice. I’m terrified of it.

It’s a lot of space for three people. But sometimes it doesn’t feel like enough!

It started to snow this afternoon. I’m a little surprised to be honest. There a two hour delay at school, tomorrow, but I’m praying for another day off! I want to sit in front of the fireplace, with my puppy, while chaos ensues in the bathroom. Sounds like a dream day, yes?

The sun set today at 5:00. Not that I saw it with all the clouds. That gives me hope, though. Inching our way closer to spring. Dreaming of the day when Hand & Flower is open again for the season!

Tuesday, January 16

Snow day! Our 700+ day snow drought is officially over. A rather sad amount but I’m sure all the kids were happy. We maybe got two to three inches of snow? Demolition got moved until tomorrow. My driveway is very long goes slightly uphill and will definitely be a sheet of ice so I’m not sure if it will happen.

Wednesday, January 18

Demolition rescheduled again for tomorrow. I hope this isn’t a foreshadowing of what to expect for the next few months.

The sun came out today. It makes the snow sparkle. Walking on it is like walking on crème brûlée. The top is a crackly layer of ice. Willow loves it.

Before
After

Watching the demolition team try to make their way up my driveway, this morning, had me on the edge of my seat. I wasn’t sure they were going to do it. But they did. We’re back on track!

I dropped my pup off at daycare and filled in for someone else selling candy at my son’s school. Grateful to be out of the house as the water and electric have been shut off while the bathroom is being torn up.

More snow is expected tomorrow. After this I’m ready for spring.

Friday, January 18

How have we already made it through 3/4 of the month already?

Much better snow, today. Being forced to slow down had me making a coq au vain chicken pie. The perfect food for a wintry evening.

Taking Willow out for her last walk of the evening was quiet and peaceful. The scent of woodsmoke perfumed the air and the only audible sound was the geese on the water across the street. I have to admit it was magical.

Saturday, January 19 / Sunday, January 20

Took advantage of having all of the bins in my living room and sorted my clothes, shoes, and accessories by type. Discovered that I have four identical black cashmere jumpers. Oops.

Hope you’re having a lovely week!
