We’re entering the month that, to me, feels most like the Keats poem, To Autumn. It truly is the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness…
I remember my son’s headmaster reading that poem at a prize giving ceremony some years ago and thinking how perfectly it described the season. But it feels especially like October.

The summer heat that can linger around in September is gone, the trees are picking up the pace on changing their colors….or shedding their leaves, completely.
The days are bathed in golden light making everything look pretty perfect. Natures filter.
The gentle decent into putting the gardens to bed is starting to begin. Bulbs, roots and corms to plant. Weeds to pull. Beds to cover.

Cleaning up pots and tools no longer needed for the season.

The flowers are starting their mad frenzy to produce seed before the first frost. I admit I do love the blown out centers, on occasion.
It’s (finally) safe to store away the summer clothes and break out the sweaters. I’m ready to swaddle myself in cashmere and woolens.
Candles are lit nearly every morning and most evenings to brighten up the darkness.
Everything is slowly becoming cozier. The food, the clothing, even the decor. It’s time for the blankets and switching up the throw pillows.
Just as the garden needs a little break and time to rest, so do we. October is perfect for slowing down a bit before we’re walloped by holiday stress.
Wishing you a lovely month!
